This week country newcomer Granger Smith has done something every up and coming artist wishes to do; he has the No. 1 song on country radio. His debut single "Backroad Song" claimed the top spot on the Mediabase and Billboard Country Songs chart.

"I'm so thankful this morning. With an amazing team, overwhelming support from country radio, family and fans, we have accomplished something truly special," Smith shared with his fans on social media yesterday (Feb. 14). "We have proven that with relentless persistence, unwavering faith and a lot of fight, some dreams really do come true."

"I've always thanked the man upstairs but lately I have a few men to thank up there. Thank you God, thanks Dad...We have the No. 1 song in the country!!!"

This chart-topping victory comes just a few weeks before the release of his major-label debut project, Remington on March 4.

“My life was such a roller coaster during my time writing and recording Remington, and you can hear that journey in these songs,” Smith said of the upcoming release. “This album is so much of who I am, and I couldn’t be more proud to launch this as my first major release. I can’t wait for everyone to hear it.”

Smith has turned from an indie-all star to a major label hot shot in almost no time at all. Based on his breakout success and support from iHeartMedia, CBS Radio and Cox Media Group in their respective launch programs, the Texan became a newcomer on the rise. Taste of Country dubbed the Smith as our No. 1 Hot Artist to Watch in 2016.

"Backroad Song" is Smith's first No.1 hit, although he'd previously been very successful on Texas Radio charts. Over the last few years he's grown from a hot regional artist to a headlining act in any city or state.
