The Legendary Greg Allman passed away this weekend leaving a legacy of music behind including one of his signature songs that has been covered by many country artists.

The song was written in 1970 by Greg Allman and road crew member Robert Kim Payne for the album Idlewild South.

Allman’s original version never charted as a single, however the Greg Allman remake in 1973 hit the top 40  a remake but four other artists had charted success with the song.

Joe Cocker took his version to number twenty-seven in 1972

The biggest commercial success came from the Willie Nelson version from the “Electric Horseman” soundtrack in 1980 that peaked at #6 on the Hot Country Charts.

Willie released another version in 2004 as a duet with Toby Keith.

Gregg Allman passed away on Saturday at the age of 69, this week’s ‘Got Ya Covered” video is one of his biggest hits, Midnight Rider.
