The Urban Cowboy Era put country into the mainstream 80’s with the spot light on Mickey Gilley’s Club in Texas, and a song that was later covered by Sawyer Brown.

The Urban Cowboy movie starred John Travolta and Debra Winger and featured several country music stars including Charlie Daniels , Bonnie Raitt . Mickey Gilley and Johnny Lee.

Lee has the most success with the movie soundtrack with a song that went to number open for three weeks on the US Country Charts and number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Many think the songs popularity grew because of Travolta’s endorsement of the song.

The country music industry dismissed it as basically a pop tune with a cowboy hat.

Johnny Lee has a certified Gold hit and the biggest of his career.

It’s also notable that over 20 artists turned down the song before Lee recorded it.

In 2000  Sawyer Brown recorded a version on their ‘Hits Live’ album.
