Have you heard of the United States Golf Local League? Kids ages 6-18 can compete at all levels. It's offered in the Southern Tier.

My son Devon has been involved since 2010. Tara even played 1 year. The National Championship has been played here the last 2 years. Here's more about this incredible opportunity for kids called USGLL.

USGLL is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing national team competition for young golfers. It's a Match Team Play format. Players get instruction in the etiquette and rules of golf, learn mutual respect and teamwork and develop important social skills.

The USGLL wants to increase youth involvement in the game of golf throughout the U.S. and eventually internationally.

The home golf course this year is at Traditions at the Glen Golf Course. That's also where the National Championship has been played the last 2 years. It used to be in California so it's awesome having this tournament in our own back yard.

The 2015 season begins next Friday 3/20. Here's the itinerary.

  • Evaluation Day, March 20th – Evaluation Night at Legends Year Round Golf Center (5pm-8pm)
  • Opening Day Ceremonies, Traditions at the Glen - April 12 (weather permitting)
  • Practices, Traditions at the Glen Driving Range - Practice slots assigned per team, one night a week M-Th.
  • Matches, Traditions at the Glen Golf Course - Friday evenings starting April 17 (weather permitting)

Registration deadline is March 27th.

It's been an awesome experience for Devon. He's made friends that will be around long after he's done with this program. He's made friends with kids from all over the country during the National Tournament.

When I would take Devon to the practices, I would learn the rules of golf and I would even pick up a tip or two when I would listen to the golf instructors. My game didn't improve much but that wasn't their fault.

They will learn life lessons about honesty, integrity and sportsmanship. They all support and encourage each other even if they aren't on the same team.

They will also have a wonderful time. If your son or daughter has thought about playing golf, this is a great place to start.

They need coaches and volunteers. To find out more about more about the USGLL in our area and to get the registration form, go here.
