In the new television commercial spot for their line of trucks, SUVs and crossover vehicles, GMC hopes to target middle-America using the George Jones and Tammy Wynette 1980 country hit ‘Two Story House’ as the featured music during the clip.

The placement of the song is an appropriate match, given the nature of the 30-second commercial. GMC spotlights the resiliency of their vehicles, exemplifying the functionality of their new-modeled Yukon, Sierra, Terrain and Acadia from the inception to completion of building a beautiful two-story house, appropriately.

Though the GMC commercial projects a hopeful image, the lyrics to the tune are actually dark in nature — a metaphor for a young couple’s failed marriage after striving to create the perfect environment for their marital bliss. Ironically, Jones and Wynette had divorced five years prior to recording the tune after a tumultuous six-year marriage.

‘Two Story House’ was the first radio release from the country superstars’ 1981 album, ‘Together Again,’ their first duet project since 1976. The track eventually reached No. 2 on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles chart.
