Giving Life to Others in the Southern Tier Through the American Red Cross

Photodisc

You’ve seen the signs by the side of the road that read “blood drive- donate today,” but have you ever actually stopped and donated? Did you know that the whole process of donating a pint of blood only takes about an hour and could save up to three people’s lives?

I’m a regular blood donor.  I’ve been donating since I was in high school, but got a little sloppy about going frequently. And then my dad got sick and relied on blood transfusion to keep him alive, so I started going as often as I was allowed. Last month after giving blood, I received the coolest email ever from the American Red Cross. It read: Thank you for giving blood with the American Red Cross on 1/29/2014. After first ensuring that local needs were met, your blood donation was sent to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, NY to help a patient in need. Your donation is on its way to changing lives!

If you’d like to join me in saving lives through blood donation, please consider stopping by one of these blood drives to be held right here in the Southern Tier in April. Oh, and anyone who donates in April can register to win a $250 gift card to use toward a rainy day getaway. Three cards in total will be given away.
