It was six years ago that 13-year-old Lily James was in a serious boating accident and almost lost her life.

Lily underwent multiple surgeries and bravely endured heaps of rehab – and this brave little girl recovered.

Lily's journey back to full health was so remarkable that she ended up winning the American Society of Plastic Surgeons’ Patient of Courage award, which comes with a $5,000 prize.

You can imagine all the things a little girl might want to buy with $5,000, but those thoughts didn't cross Lily's mind. Instead, she donated all of the money to the paramedic foundation that rescued her those years back.

Lily's donation will support a program that trains medical professionals in advanced life support skills that can help kids.
