For many years we've been treated to country music at it's finest. The man who country music rooted deep in the hearts of many my age has decided to quit touring. It's a sad announcement because when I was growing up this man represented country music to me. Amongst Ricky Van Shelton, Mickey Gilley, Marty Robbins and Merle Haggard the one artist that I really looked up to was George Strait. I remember "The Chair" playing on full volume in my fathers 1971 baby blue Chrysler New Yorker driving to anywhere with my Dad singing along. The years rolled ahead as they tend to do and the only difference in the last sentence would be the car turned into a gold '77, and the song? "Ocean Front Property" This may sound like a reminiscence trip to you, but when I have any memories of childhood 90% of them involve Mr. Strait somehow. Anyway, after the next two years he will cease to tour. However he says that he may get back on stage for events that he chooses, but decided that when he turned sixty it was best to quit than to keep going until no one showed up to his concerts. His announced his final tour "The Cowboy Rides Away" on Wednesday in Nashville and also told us that he's picked Martina McBride to be his tour mate! Go see him before he's gone! I definitely will.
