Gateway Building Fills a Hole in the Heart of Owego
Nearly two decades after a devastating fire, an empty space in Owego's historic business district has vanished.
Construction on a three-story building on Front Street started last September. The site for the $2.9 million project is just east of Lake Street.
The structure will have eight apartments on the upper floors and about 3,500 square feet of commercial space on the street level.
Frances Evans of Nelson Development Group says the structure should be ready for occupancy this fall.
Evans says applications for the building's apartments are being accepted. She says most of the available commercial space has been leased.
Evans says an open house is held every third Friday of the months to give people an opportunity to observe the progress being made on the project.
The next open house will take place on May 18 from 5 to 7 p.m.
