Garth Brooks knows a thing or two about having a good time, so when the legend was in Pittsburgh over his birthday weekend, he celebrated turning a year older in style.

The legendary hitmaker played six shows at the Consol Energy Center arena, and the events included some special birthday festivities. Brooks turned 53 on Feb. 7 and spent his special day with Steelers coach Mike Tomlin and several members of the Pittsburgh football team.

"Since I’ve been a baby, I’ve been a Black and Gold fan,” Brooks tells the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "I’ve been a Pittsburgh fan forever."

Celebrating with some of his favorite sports legends — and thousands of his biggest fans — was the perfect way to create an unforgettable birthday. Brooks led the entire arena in singing "Friends in Low Places" as confetti rained down from above. He also enjoyed a gigantic Pittsburgh-themed birthday cake. Wife Trisha Yearwood was by his side to celebrate the occasion with him.

“I couldn’t have picked a better city to spend my birthday in," the singer adds, noting that there is one small downside to celebrating a birthday on the road: “Having a birthday on the road is rough, ’cause you’ve got 30 guys looking to get even for what you did to them on their birthday.”

Of course, Brooks' friends couldn't pass up the opportunity to play a practical joke on him, and they shoved a pie in his face as he emerged from his dressing room.

Brooks is currently on a world tour.
