A driver on Binghamton's West Side escaped injury when a tire flew off a truck and hit a car windshield.

The incident happened on Riverside Drive near Murray Street around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

A rear wheel broke away from a small Ford dump truck and smashed into a Subaru sedan.

Both vehicles apparently were eastbound at the time. As police investigated the incident, the tire that caused the scare was in a grassy area in front of a home at 35 Riverside Drive.

Police said no one was hurt. It was not known whether any tickets were issued.

Both drivers declined to comment at the scene.

The dump truck that lost the tire bore no company markings. The disabled vehicle was towed away about 30 minutes after the incident occurred.
