With so much going on this summer, it gets to be a challenge to make outdoor plans.  Our friend Howard Manges from the WBNG Storm Tracker Weather Center just let us know that a flash flood watch continues through 2am for Chenango, Cortland, Otsego and Tompkins Counties with most of the Hawk listening area expected to receive scattered showers this evening.

According to Howard, additional scattered showers and storms are expected to develop west to east this evening. Rain will taper tonight. A cold front will move through Wednesday and later in the day some clearing is expected as high pressure builds in for Thursday and Friday. The weekend will be a touch unsettled, but at this time I do not anticipate a washout of either day. Highs through this week will be around to above average.

Tonight the line of rain moves east and will taper west to east after midnight. A cold front will cross the region Wednesday morning and keep a chance of showers in the forecast for places east and southeast of Binghamton through about midday. Locations near and west of Binghamton should be mainly dry after about 9am. Highs will be in the low 70s with some breaks of sunshine expected in afternoon. The chance of rain is 30%. Wednesday will not be a washout.

High pressure will build in for Thursday and through most of Friday. Lots of sunshine is expected Thursday and early Friday with highs climbing back to around 80. Our weather models increase clouds Friday afternoon and evening and a few even bring a chance of rain into the Finger Lakes by evening. Because this is such a big change from yesterday, I’m still keeping Friday dry. However, if the trend continues, showers may have to be added.

Saturday could bring a few showers or storms, as could Sunday. The chance of occasional rain or storms is 40% Saturday and I’m categorizing Sunday’s precipitation chance as slight – with a 20% chance. Highs both days will be near 80. Rain and thunder looks like a decent bet for Monday with highs around 80. It will turn quite muggy this weekend as well.
