First Niagara branches will close early on Friday as the transition to KeyBank is made over the Columbus Day holiday weekend.

Most Broome County branch offices will open with the KeyBank name Tuesday morning. The one exception is the First Niagara branch on Main Street in the village of Windsor. KeyBank decided not to retain that office.

The acquisition will affect banking operations in four states. 36 KeyBank and 70 First Niagara offices are being closed in New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Massachusetts.

Residents, government officials and business operators in Windsor have expressed disappointment that the village and town now will be without a bank branch.

All accounts with the Windsor branch are being transferred to the downtown Binghamton office at 65 Court Street.

Two of the three tellers who have worked for First Niagara in Windsor are expected to move to the Binghamton branch. One teller has decided not to work in Binghamton.
