North Star Group of Vestal hired a demolition company to tear down a dozen old homes a year ago.

This week, the final two houses on Route 434 just west of the Binghamton city line are being demolished.

Members of the Vestal Historic Preservation Commission were unsuccessful in their fight to keep the neighborhood intact.

Representatives of the development firm won't say what they plan to do with the properties. The parcels are between the parkway and the Susquehanna River. The property is across from University Plaza, which is home to a mix of retailers, restaurants and student housing.
