After 25 seasons, the era of the Binghamton Mets will be over. It won't end with a bang but with a drop.....of candy from a helicopter.

The New York Met's aren't moving the Double-A affiliate but beginning next year, there will be many changes.

We already know that after the game today Buddy and Ballwinkle are retiring. You also may remember that at the beginning of the season, we were asked to help rename the team.

Over 1,500 entries were submitted. From there, it was cut down to six. Some people weren't happy with the super six entries. I will say this though, it did get a lot of airtime on national programs like ESPN.

I've heard that ESPN has visited a couple times already in anticipation of the new name. If you forgot what they were, here they are in alphabetical order and the meaning behind the name.

Binghamton Bullheads: A local inhabitant of the Susquehanna River, a Bullhead is a bullhead catfish. The bullhead displays a tough and resilient character like the Binghamton community.

Binghamton Gobblers: A symbol of the rich hunting culture of the area, the Gobblers honors the outdoorsman lifestyle and turkeys who call Binghamton home.

Binghamton Rocking Horses: The Rocking Horses celebrates the Triple Cities' rich history as the "Carousel Capital of the World."

Binghamton Rumble Ponies: A tribute to the Triple Cities' rich carousel heritage, the Rumble Ponies is a herd of fierce horses that no carousel center pole can contain.

Binghamton Stud Muffins: While tipping a cap to the players on the field, the stud Muffins celebrates the collection of carousel horses belonging to Binghamtonians.

Binghamton Timber Jockeys: Combining the fun of Minor League Baseball with the rich carousel history of the Triple Cities, the Timber Jockeys pays homage to everyone that rides the carousels.

We'll find out in October, what the new name will be. In the meantime, come out to NYSEG Stadium this afternoon and celebrate the end of the Binghamton Met era.

It's a retirement party for Buddy and Ballwinkle. After the game, Smoketown Helicopters will be dropping loads of candy from the sky. First pitch is at 1:05.

LET'S GO METS! For one last time.
