Five years ago, 41 basic cable networks aired movies. Now about 60 do. And you'd think that since there are more channels airing movies that there would be a broader selection. Nope.

In the last five years, the number of times movies aired on basic cable (not including  premium services such as HBO, Showtime and Starz) went to about 50,000 from 29,067. And here's the crazy thing is, it seems like these cable companies are playing and replaying the same movies over and over. So, when you find yourself saying "there's not a good movie on," it's not that there aren't any good movies on, but rather that you've seen what's on about a million times already.

For example, the movie "The Hangover" has run 72 times on HBO and Cinemax, 46 times on TBS and twice on TNT. Yet in December, Comedy Central got hold of the movie for the first time and promoted it like crazy, and once again "The Hangover" delivered, bringing in almost one million viewers.

So, cable channels play and replay the same movies because people keep watching them. You know what that means, right? We've got nobody to blame but ourselves.
