FDA Approves New Breast Cancer Drug

This is incredibly exciting. A first-of-its-kind breast cancer drug  has won FDA approval.

The drug is called Perjeta and it treats a certain form of early-stage breast cancer before surgery in women who are at high risk of having the disease spread.

Doctors say they hope the drugs and others like it will help shrink tumors, making them easier to remove.  In a lot of breast cancer patients, pre-surgical medications like the newly approved Perjeta might prevent the need for a full mastectomy.
