You don't have to travel far to catch some great live music in the Southern Tier.  When the weekend comes along, music lovers in the Southern Tier flock to their favorite taverns and clubs to catch their favorite bands or to be introduced to some new sounds and styles.  We're pretty lucky to have so many genres of music available to us on a regular basis.

Everyone has a favorite place that plays live music.  When I was putting my list together, I took into consideration popular night spots, places that consistently book live music or bands and the general feel of the venue.

Here are 5 favorites that has people talking:

    >  Magic City Music Hall -- this popular music venue was greatly missed for being the place to catch local and national acts on a regular basis.  News was very well received when they REopened in their new location in the Northgate Plaza on Upper Front Street in Binghamton.  MCMH tries to feature all genres of music, including most Saturday's doing a popular "Country Night" with local favorites like the Jason Wicks Band headlining.  Magic City has an impressive list of national shows coming to Binghamton including: Kane Brown, Marshall Tucker Band, The Charlie Daniels Band, Starship and more.

   >  Ransom Steele Tavern -- features live music every Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.  This is quickly becoming to "go-to" place for live music fans and a really cool building too. Located on the corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and Main Street in Apalachin.

   >  Old Union Hotel -- Some of the best chicken wings in town and you can catch some of the area's best bands on most Friday and Saturday nights. The Old Union has a great friendly atmosphere.  Come for an hour and you're libel to stay all night.  Check out the old framed photos on the wall.  Located on Clinton Street in Binghamton.

  >   Blind Tiger Pub -- Another popular place to catch local bands is the Blind Tiger Pub on Watson Blvd in Johnson City.  I like this venue because they have a spacious wooden deck and when the weather heats up, they do live music on the deck!  You can catch live music inside and out, year round every Thursday and Saturday nights.  Plus 36 beers on tap is nice too!

  >   The Sherwood Hotel -- Located in downtown Greene, this warm and historic building reinvented itself when it reopened in 2012.  After being closed for a brief time this winter, the restaurants at the Sherwood will be fully open for dining beginning in late March. This is an awesome place to catch live music either in the downstairs Tap Room or some acoustic music on the huge front porch overlooking beautiful Greene.
