A very busy weekend in the Greater Binghamton area.  Binghamton University students are just about moved in, the Chris Thater Memorial Races are Saturday and Sunday in downtown and if you happen to be around Upper Front Street in Binghamton on Saturday from 9am to 3pm, you may run in to some traffic congestion as it's "Move In Day" for SUNY Broome students at the Student Village.

I obtained some interesting facts from SUNY Broome Marketing Office on the new semester for about to start in a few days-- some things you may not be aware of and other things that may not surprise you.  First off, there are 5,535 students enrolled at SUNY Broome but that could change as the semester moves forward.

  • Of the students enrolled, 4,135 are full-time students and 1,500 are part-time.
  • According to data compiled earlier Friday, the population includes 1,861 new, first-time students, 2,945 continuing students and 343 non-matriculated students. These numbers will continue to be updated.
  • Nearly 57 percent are female and 43 percent are male.
  • Approximately 60 percent are from Broome County, 36 percent from another New York State County, 3 percent from out of state and another 1 percent from another country.
  • Traditional, campus-only students number 4,301 while 651 students take courses both on campus and online, and 683 are online-only.
  • 360 students live on campus in the Student Village. Move-In Day is scheduled for Saturday, August 27.

Welcome to Greater Binghamton or welcome back, whichever is most appropriate!
