It seems as though everyone I talk to has complained about the weather in the Southern Tier but actually with the exception of the devastating floods that hit many parts of the Southern Tier a few years back, we've actually had it quite good.  Take California for example.  "The Golden State" is entering a state of disaster.  Very Scary.

California has had one of the most devastating winters on record.  According to Jay Famiglietti, Senior Water Scientist for NASA in a report published by zerohedge.com, "California has one year of water left."  Proof of that is the picture above that shows how the California drought has dried up Bay area reservoirs.

It's panic mode not only for residents of California but for farmers and anybody that has a need for water.  It's life or the end of wildlife in a very important Western state.  According to NASA date, "the total water storage in California has been in steady decline since at least 2002."

This season, the so called "wet season," was not all that wet.  In fact, the total amount of water stored in the Sacramento and San Joaquin river basins was 34 million acre-feet below normal last year.

If you're saying how does this affect us in Upstate New York, it's important to note that most of our produce comes from California and without water you will see grocery store prices double or triple.

Here are a few areas where Californians can conserve water now in the short term:  limit or close a large number of California golf courses require watering or severely limit the water allowed, stop the car washes, water parks, asking for water in restaurants and the watering of lawns.  This is serious stuff and unfortunately, just the start of global warming horror stories.

There's a popular myth, which is often expressed today, and that is, "the next great war will be a water war".  Something to think about as California is on the verge of losing water and this would affect all of us.
