Downtown Binghamton comes alive this weekend for the 33rd Annual Chris Thater Memorial Races, Saturday and Sunday (August 27 and August 28) from 8:30am to dusk.

According to the Chris Thater Memorial web site, "the 33rd annual race is presented by Broome County STOP-DWI and SEFCU and raises awareness of drunk and impaired driving. It is held in honor of Chris Thater, a 23-year-old cycler who was killed by a drunk driver near Harpursville in 1983."

In addition to the public, amateur and professional cycling events, there will be a 5K run and even something for the kids, with a free kids run.  The third annual CrossFit Lee Barta Challenge will also be featured, along with men's and women's pro races. All events are free for spectators.

The weather is looking perfect with low humidity and that should set well for those in the spectator stands, located in from of the Hawk Studios in downtown Binghamton.
