Eric Church made staying up late worth it when he brought his latest single, "Kill a Word," to the Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon on Monday night (Sep. 12.)

The Chief took the stage in his signature aviators and leather jacket to deliver the tune alongside a barefoot vocal powerhouse, Rhiannon Giddens.

"I'd take brokenness out back / And break heartbreak, stand there and laugh / Right in its face while shootin' it the bird / I'd put upset down in its place / I'd squeeze the life out of disgrace / Lay over under six cold feet of dirt / If I could only kill a word," the country rocker sings in the track's chorus.

The pair ignited the late night stage with their talent, producing magnificent harmonies and a memorable performance. Church and Giddens sound just as good, if not better, on live television as they do on record — a difficult feat for many artists.

"Kill a Word" is the third single from Church's most recent CMA-nominated album, Mr. Misunderstood. It is the followup to "Record Year," which recently hit the top of the charts.

The 39-year-old country star is slated to take his show on the road soon, embarking on his solo Holdin' My Own Tour, making stops at 56 cities along the way.

"The way this album came together mandated we release it as a surprise, straight to our fans, as it was important for me to deliver the music the same way the creativity hit me — directly and swiftly. What I didn’t anticipate is that it left me scratching my head a little, as this year was supposed to be spent writing,” he says in a press release. “What this year’s open schedule did afford us was time to think through the way the fans experience our music live, and it was important to us that we find a way to stick to these same principles when it came to approaching our shows."

The trek will kick off in January and run through May, closing with two shows in Nashville.
