Detectives are investigating the death of a man who was discovered with several stab wounds in an Endicott municipal parking lot.

Authorities say police received calls from people in the area of the lot on Garfield Avenue around 7:30 a.m.

The first patrol officers on the scene found the man to be unresponsive. He was pronounced dead by a Broome County coroner a short time later.

Assistant police chief Craig Williams said the stab wounds to the man's abdominal area apparently were self-inflicted. He said a knife was recovered at the scene.

Williams said the man was a 63-year-old Broome County resident.

State police assisted village police officers and detectives at the scene. Investigators remained at the parking lot for over four hours. The lot is located just east of several Washington Avenue businesses.

Workers at BAE Systems and other employees at the Huron Campus were notified that police were investigating an incident near the property. They were advised to stay away from the scene.
