I was driving to work this morning and suddenly I was staring at a purple dragon to my left and to my right were some flying elephants. I just sat there in my car dumbfounded. Why in the world are there colorful animals blocking streets in downtown Binghamton? I had to rub my eyes to make sure I was awake. I was.

Now through Sunday evening you might have a little trouble navigating around downtown because, well, there are some pretty huge animals in the streets. Animal rides that is.

The 2014 Binghamton Empire Festival sponsored by the Broome County Urban League is closing down Washington Street at Riverside Drive to Court Street and the corner of State and Hawley Street to the Washington Street intersection through Sunday evening.

The festival will run Friday September 5th through Sunday September 7th. In addition to rides, the festival will feature music, food and games including a three-on-three basketball tourney.

A concert featuring Bro Safari ( moombahton, trap, and dubstep music) is scheduled for Sunday at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
