Electric Vehicle Mini-Expo and Intro Comes to Bingo
Have you noticed all the electric charging stations popping up around the Binghamton area? If you're around Upper Front Street you'll find a bunch in the parking lot of The Spot Restaurant and I noticed one in the parking lot at Price Chopper. The charging stations actually say Tesla, which I find funny because we don't have a Tesla dealer in the Southern Tier.
But are electric cars catching on? Slowing but surely. According to Statista, Tesla Model S was by far the best selling electric car brand, followed by the Nissan Leaf. It's my opinion that the Tesla has the looks and I know Consumer Reports ranks it high on reviews. The Model S commands a big price tag. Tesla's new roadster Model 3 will definitely be a more affordable car and already has a huge waiting list before it is awaiting release in late 2017.
There is a certain curiosity on electric cars. I'm one of the curious. There's a good opportunity to learn about electric cars and their charging stations on the First Friday State Street Art Walk Friday night (May 6) at Atomic Toms in downtown Binghamton. From 6-8pm, you can browse the cars, talk to car owners and learn how EV works for them. At 7:30pm there will be a brief presentation on EV and charging stations incentives. Stop by and see the red Tesla S and electric Kowasaki Ninja motorcycle, among others.
