Do you realize the price of store bought eggnog is double to triple the price of a gallon of gasoline?  Crazy prices in the Southern Tier for this seasonal treat.

Let's face it, drinking a glass or two (or four) of eggnog is not difficult to do.  Last weekend, I kept with tradition and cut my Christmas tree at Kodey's and later in the day gathered with friends to enjoy this tasty cocktail.

But thanks to one of my friends, she shared an easy homemade eggnog recipe that I plan to try this weekend.  Plan to do this in advance as you have to chill everything overnight.  In the meantime, I wanted to share the recipe with you.  Give it a try and let me know how it turned out for you.

Here's what you will need for about 12 servings:

>  4 cups milk (1% is fine if you're watching your calories)

>  1 cup of sugar + 1 tablespoon

>  4-5 whole cloves  >  2 1/2 cups of rum  >  1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

>  1 teaspoon ground cinnamon  >  12 egg yolks    >  1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

>  2 teaspoons of vanilla extract

1.  Mix milk, cloves, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla, and cinnamon in a pan on the lowest setting for 5 minutes.  Stir and slowly bring to a boil.

2.  Whisk egg yolks and sugar in a large bowl until fluffy.  Add the milk mix slowly into the egg and sugar mixture.  Pour mixture into your pan over medium heat, stirring for 3 minutes or until the mixture thickens.  DO NOT BOIL.  Strain to remove cloves, and cool for about an hour before placing in refrigerator.

3.  Add rum, cream, 2 more teaspoons of vanilla and nutmeg to taste.  Chill in refrigerator overnight and serve chilled.

4.  Call friends over and enjoy!
