Easter Version Of Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’ [VIDEO]
There’s an excellent chance that at some point in your life, you’ve heard Leonard Cohen’s song ‘Hallelujah,’ but trust me when I tell you that you’ve probably never heard it like this.
In this magnificent version, the lyrics have been changed to reflect Easter and the story of the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus.
Singer Kelly Mooney re-wrote this famous song as an Easter spiritual and then she went after the mechanical rights to the song, successfully obtaining them from Leonard Cohen’s group, and the rest is history. Mooney has been performing her version of ‘Hallelujah’ for churches and groups ever since, to great response.
Mooney sat down with CBC News and explained, “The lyrics right from the Easter passage, the fact that it is Easter, the kids, the choir, all those circumstances together evoke something in people.”
Watch as Mooney, accompanied by the Chorale Voce dell’Anima, performs at the Monument Lefebvre in Memramcook, New Brunswick, Canada.
