On November 7, 2016, the world lost a prolific songwriter and poet when Leonard Cohen died unexpectedly. Cohen was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but above all else, Cohen is most well known for the song that took him two years to put to paper, 'Hallelujah."

Since its debut on the album Various Positions in 1984, 'Hallelujah has been covered by several hundred different musicians such as U2's Bono, country star Brett Young, and probably most famously, by Jeff Buckley who introduced the song to a new generation when the song was featured on the television show, "The OC."

There's a good chance that at some point in your life you've heard Leonard Cohen's song 'Hallelujah,' but you've most likely never heard it like this. In this gripping version, the lyrics to this famous song have been changed to reflect Easter and the story of the passion, the death, and the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Singer Kelly Mooney re-wrote Cohen's 'Hallelujah' as an Easter spiritual and then she went after the mechanical rights to the song which means she would be able to reproduce her version of the song and put it on CD and digital formats. Mooney was successful in obtaining the rights for Leonard Cohen's team, and as they say- the rest is history.

In an interview with CBC News, Mooney explained, "The lyrics right from the Easter passage, the fact that it is Easter, the kids, the choir, all those circumstances together evoke something in people." Listen as Mooney performs her reworked version.
