My Dad is a volunteer firefighter and so is my brother in law Jeff.  I'm pretty sure you could ask them "What in life are they proud of."  They both would have "Being a volunteer firefighter" in the top 3.  However volunteer firefighters are declining.

Dunkin’ Donuts and the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY) are announcing a partnership to encourage volunteer firefighting as the number of volunteers dwindles in the Southern Tier and throughout New York State.

Members of the Endwell Fire Department will display fire trucks and the equipment recruits would operate in lifesaving situations as volunteer firefighters. Today beginning at 10:30am at Dunkin Donuts 3521 Country Club Road in Endicott.

The number of volunteer firefighters serving throughout New York State has declined by roughly 20,000 over the past 15 years. New York State’s 92,000 volunteer firefighters save New Yorkers billions of dollars in additional taxes by donating their time to help protect the majority of the state from the ravages of fire or other emergencies.

So stop by Dunkin Donuts and while you're enjoying their coffee, find out how to become a volunteer firefighter.  They save lives and money.
