Two people have been accused of making methamphetamine after a Johnson City blaze left several people homeless.

Authorities say the arrests were made following an investigation into a Wednesday morning fire at 20 Mildred Avenue.

Investigators say 52-year-old Thomas Manwarren and 48-year-old Dawn Velapoldi were charged with unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine, a felony.

Manwarren and Velapoldi face three counts each of criminal possession of a controlled substance. They also were charged with criminal possession of marijuana.

Police on Wednesday evening said detectives had executed a search warrant on an apartment in the building.

Investigators believe some evidence was destroyed by the fire. But, they said, some evidence was recovered from the scene.

Detectives said they found materials used to manufacture meth, along with controlled substances and marijuana.

Although no injuries were caused by the fire, several people were left homeless.

Fire investigators said the blaze appeared to have started on a third-floor porch on the back side of the three-unit apartment house.
