A comprehensive study on downtown Binghamton parking issues is about to get underway.

Mayor Richard David said the city hopes to hear from residents, business operators and people who visit downtown to help develop parking policies.

A workshop-style open house will be held in the lobby of the MetroCenter on Court Street to provide people with information about the parking study. The event will be held on June 16 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

A firm called NelsonNygaard Consulting Associates will develop an analysis of existing and future downtown parking needs.

The Binghamton Metropolitan Transportation Study plans to hold a roundtable discussion for merchants to obtain suggestions regarding parking issues. That discussion is scheduled for June 16 at 8:15 a.m. in the legislative conference room of the Broome County Office Building.

People interested in downtown parking needs may participate in an online survey.
