More and more, we're hearing stories of people donating kidneys to others. Kidneys are going to friends, family and co-workers. But this is the first time that I've heard of one kidney donation saving seven different lives.

A man in Australia decided that he wanted to donate his kidney to a friend, only to learn that the donation wasn't needed after all. The man could have just walked away and on with his life, but he didn't let the rejection stop him. This incredible man ended up donating a kidney to a stranger, which set off a chain reaction that ended up saving seven lives and all in one single miraculous day.

Usually a kidney donation happens between two people who know each other pretty well. But, not all kidney donors and recipients are compatible.

When 54-year-old Paul Bannan decided to go through with a kidney donation and gave one of his to a complete stranger, it allowed others in a “kidney exchange” to donate their kidney to a stranger – knowing that their friend or family member was going to be taken care of and get the kidney they needed.

Because of one selfless man, seven transplants occurred. Seven lives were saved.

Surgeons performed 14 separate operations to remove and transplant kidneys at six different hospitals all on the same day.

Paul said he just wanted to help others and wasn’t bothered that that his kidney went to a stranger because he said that a "stranger is just a friend" he "hasn’t met yet."
