We are well into October and even though the temperatures don’t feel like Halloween, it’s almost here! Even though Halloween falls in the middle of the week, an even scarier day happens to be on the way this Friday. It’s Friday the 13th!

It's a day associated with bad luck or good luck depending on how you look at it. It’s a day with an entire terrifying movie series dedicated to it. A day where superstition reigns king.

Friday the 13th got me wondering what weird or different superstitions people have. I have grown up with a few that I follow, and some that have actually worked out for me.

The biggest superstition I have has to do with bird droppings. I have always been told that if a bird has an accident on you, its good luck and you should play the lottery. One time a bird did his business right on my arm as I was walking into the grocery store. My mother told me immediately grab a scratch off lottery ticket, I did and won $500!

My ears seem to always be ringing. Now, I can attribute that to having my headphones super loud all the time, or that someone is talking about me somewhere in the world. This superstition seems a little odd, but I’ve come to believe it.

I have been known to walk with my head down in parking lots, not because I’m sad, but because I want to find pennies! If a penny is heads up and you find it, pick it up for good luck. I still have some heads up pennies in my wallet. In fact, I used to tape a penny to my shoes before big wrestling matches in high school. I actually don’t think I have ever told anyone that, so there you go.

Knocking on wood seems to be a daily habit of mine. I am very optimistic when it comes to daily life, and sometimes it can be to my detriment. If I find myself saying “This day is going really well” I immediately knock on wood twice. I have been told that by knocking on wood twice you can reverse your bad luck.

Get your superstitions and good luck charms ready, Friday the 13th is just around the corner!
