Pretty much everyone was shocked last Wednesday when CeeLo Green unexpectedly announced on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that he was done with NBC's 'The Voice' and wouldn't be back as a coach, but a source spilled to TheWrap that insiders saw it coming a mile away.

The websites reports: "Green's decision to quit was a move to avoid being fired by NBC and producer Mark Burnett Productions" a quote they say they received from an "individual with knowledge of the situation."

CeeLo's announcement came after a fifth season in which he suffered "at least one meltdown," and was asked to leave the set on two occasions. Ouch.

In October, CeeLo was charged with slipping the drug Ecstasy to an unidentified 33-year-old woman in 2012, after which they found themselves back at the woman's hotel room. CeeLo plead not guilty to the charge and prosecutors decided not to chase  a rape charge against CeeLo saying there wasn't enough evidence.

Season six of 'The Voice' kicks off tonight on NBC 5 with the return of Blake, Adam, Shakira and Usher as coaches.
