A $2.5 million project to renovate a downtown Binghamton building has been delayed but developers say it is moving forward.

Syed Ali and Adam Ibrahim announced their plans to modernize the five-story structure at 73 Court Street in June of last year.

The Binghamton University graduates had hoped the project would be completed by early this year. But they say they've encountered several challenges in getting things started.

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, Ali said the developers are working to finalize $300,000 in state funding they expect to receive for work to create a "green roof." The concept calls for the roof to be covered with vegetation.

Ibrahim said there is "probably a 90 percent chance" work on the roof could begin by fall.

The developers said some minor revisions have been made to the floor plans for the apartments on the top four floors of the building.

The street level of the building now is occupied by a club called The Place On Court.
