The 36th annual CHOW Hunger Walk is coming up and Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse Director Jack Seman talks all about it Saturday on the weekly, local public affairs program, Southern Tier Close Up.

In addition to over 30 years of raising food, funds and awareness through the CHOW Hunger Walk, Seman says the local hunger abatement organization has, itself, been around more than 40 years.

Seman says CHOW and other groups with the goal of addressing food insecurity in the region, like the Food Bank of the Southern Tier and Catholic Charities, are branching out in efforts to help pull populations at risk away from hunger issues through instruction on financial planning, job training and healthy food choices.

The 36th annual CHOW Hunger Walk takes place September 16, starting at 1 p.m. on the Binghamton University campus in Vestal.  Walkers can find out more and register at the Broome County Council of Churches website www.broomecouncil.net/chow or just show up at B.U. on the 16th with a donation for CHOW.

Seman adds, remember the 20th annual Food-a-Bago at the Weis Markets on Upper Front Street is also coming up in October and is a fun way to see how much food you can fit in a recreational vehicle to feed the hungry in the region.
