Davis College is raising awareness for Backpacks for Kids, hosting a Hometown Hunger Concert on Saturday, August 29th at Davis College on Riverside Drive in Johnson City. The concert will feature local band When Oceans Rise.

With this concert, Davis College aims to wipeout hometown hunger.  Backpacks for Kids provides local children who are at risk of hunger with a weekend supply of food during the school year.  Eligibility is determined by the school district, and the neediest children within the public school system are eligible.  A typical weekend supply bag contains the following: one jar of peanut butter, tuna or chicken, instant oatmeal breakfasts, canned fruit, soup, veggies, canned and dried meals and a couple of snacks.

Partnering with The Food Bank of the Southern Tier, the college will facilitate the program and act as the distribution center.

Since the program started in 2013, Hometown Heroes have provided over 13,000 backpacks for children in the Southern Tier.

$5.00 concert tickets will be available Saturday at the door.  Davis College is located at 400 Riverside Drive in Johnson City.  Doors open at 6pm and the concert begins at 7pm.
