When I was pregnant with my son, I went to a class on diet and nutrition and what I learned was pretty simple and definitely painless.

For the maximum health benefits, it's best to always balance out carbs and protein. For instance, if you're going to have a chicken breast for dinner, pair it with a small amount of rice and a lot of veggies (but be careful because some veggies contain high levels of carbs, such as corn).  To simply have pasta with bread to soak up the sauce isn't enough. In order for carbs to break down, there has to be an element of protein.

If you're pregnant, I definitely do not suggest following this because what your body needs is different than someone not carrying human life, but if you're not pregnant and want to lose weight, researchers at Harvard say to go low carb, not low fat.

It's simple, really. Researchers found that people on low-carb diets lost more weight (about 2.5 pounds more) than those who followed a low-fat plan.
