The year was 1933. It was six years before World War II. Work on the Golden Gate Bridge was just beginning. Mount Rushmore was dedicated. "King Kong," premiered at Radio City Music Hall and Jose Manuel Riella and Martina Lopez met each other.

Not only did Jose and Martina meet in 1933, but they fell in love, moved in together and have been together ever since. 80 years of friendship, eight children, 50 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, 20 great-great-grandchildren and this year, 103 year old Jose and 99-year-old Martina finally decided to get “serious” and get married.

Jose and Martina were unified through a civil ceremony 31 years ago, but they wanted to have a religious service and so this year they did. Most all of Jose and Martina's family showed up to watch them say their views and then celebrate at a reception.

The next time one of your female friends complains about her man taking too long to propose, share this story with her and remind her that chances are good she won't have to wait 80 years like Martina did.
