Broome County and Binghamton officials say they are joining forces in an effort to remove more abandoned houses in the city.

Thirteen old structures are to be demolished as part of what's billed as an intergovernmental partnership.

The plan calls for the county to sell foreclosed properties to local municipalities for a nominal fee. The county would cover the cost of asbestos screenings before demolition work would start.

Local governments would pay for the actual demolitions. The county would waive landfill tipping fees for demolition debris.

The county plans to sell the 13 Binghamton properties to the city for a dollar each. Demolition work is planned for next year.

The properties to be demolished are at:

  • 183 Chapin Street
  • 423 Chenango Street
  • 40 Julian Street
  • 14 Livingston Street
  • 29 Lydia Street
  • 49 Lydia Street
  • 32 Lyon Street
  • 92 Park Avenue
  • 644 State Street
  • 4 Sturges Street
  • 50 Thorp Street
  • 20 Tremont Avenue
  • 22 Tremont Avenue
