A donation from Vested Interest in K9s, Incorporated is giving a Cortland County Police Dog better protection.

The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office says K9 Fredy has been given a ballistic vest, which was sponsored by Kristen Miller of Falcon, Colorado.

Fredy’s new protective outerwear is being embroidered with “Be safe, my hero.”

Since it was founded, the non-profit Vested Interest in K9s, based in East Tauton, Massachusetts, has provided over 1,550 protective vests in 49 states through private and corporate donations.

The program is open to dogs actively employed in the United States law enforcement or related agencies.

Donations to provide one protective vest for a police dog is $1,050.
