One of my biggest pet peeves is obnoxious and loud people in a cafe or restaurant. You know the kind I'm talking about- they're the one talking so loud that you can hear them 10 tables away. They're the person who mocks the waiter or waitress and who complains about everything and loudly. The one who refuses to smile, or say "thank you."

Lack of politeness has become a real problem and one employee of a Virginia cafe wanted to prove a point that it pays to be nice by dropping prices for customers who showed their nice side.

Austin Simms works at Cups Cafe and used the daily specials board outside the cafe to make a coffee deal that read:

"Small Coffee" – $5

"Small Coffee, Please" – $3

"Hello, Small Coffee Please" – $1.75

Simms says that the was trying to send a message to those, "who don't realize we're all people behind the counter."  The owner of the cafe said the sign was a joke and that she plans to keep things sweet and won't be charging anyone $5 for a small cup of coffee.

Wouldn't it be something though if businesses gave discounts for being nice?
