A woman in Wisconsin got a taste of the spirit of Christmas courtesy of a man who happened to be eavesdropping.

70-year-old Nancy Mahoney was in traffic court asking a judge to reduce the fine on her speeding ticket. She explained that she's on a fixed income and paying the fine in one lump sum would be very hard for her. The judge agreed to let her pay it in installments, but as she was walking to another office to finalize things, she was approached by a man who told her he had paid most of the fine for her.

Nancy says, "This gentleman came up and he said, 'Excuse me. I overheard your conversation in court and I would like to help you pay for your fine.'" He explained that he has an elderly mother on a fixed income and knows how hard it would be for her to pay it off, so he wanted to help.

The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, says, "It was just one of those moments where I saw someone in need and decided I could help."

The judge was also touched touched by the act of kindness, and in the spirit of paying it forward, decided to dismiss the ticket all together. Nancy says she too has been inspired by the man's kindness and will try to pay it forward however she's able.
