Chris Young was one of the first country singers to step up after Hurricane Harvey made landfall, and he hasn’t forgotten about the people of south Texas.
The “Losing Sleep” singer recently called Taste of Country Nights to talk about his continuing support of the relief effort. His GoFundMe page is nearing 80 percent of a $500K goal, with more than 3,500 people contributors.
“It’s so sad about what everybody is dealing with down there,” he says. “It’s just a small part of the recovery effort. This is going to be something people deal with for days and weeks and months to come.”
When Harvey hit, Young alluded to his Texas connections, sharing that he had a second home in a town hit hardest. While he didn’t provide an update on his property, he did say everyone he knows is accounted for but, “I know a lot of people that have very sadly lost their homes. Some people lost everything.”
The total cost of the rebuild will reach far into the billions. Seventy people were killed when the storm struck in late August and flood waters are just now receding. Miranda Lambert, Josh Abbott Band and George Strait are among the other stars who quickly pitched in.
On Sept. 12, Strait, Lambert and Chris Stapleton will take part in a nationwide telethon for relief that will air on all major networks. Their portion of the show will come from a theater in San Antonio, Texas. Donations can be made to several charities listed at the ToC Hurricane Harvey hub.
Taste of Country Nights is a syndicated night show which airs on nearly 100 radio stations nationwide. Listen to highlights on iTunes or your Android device.
