Rabies is a serious disease. It is caused by a virus. Humans get rabies when they are bitten by infected animals. At first there might not be any symptoms. But weeks, or even months after a bite, rabies can cause pain, fatigue, headaches, fever, and irritability. These are followed by seizures, hallucinations, and paralysis. Human rabies is almost always fatal.

There are a series of rabies clinics sponsored by Animal Aid and Relief Foundation (AARF) and the Broome County Health Department.  For a $5 donation to AARF per pet, your dog, cat or ferret can be protected and you can have peace of mind.  Pets need to be at least 3 years old and all pets must be restrained by a responsible party.  It's requested that you bring previous rabies vaccination certificates with you.
