It's that time of year when we start mentally preparing for alternate street parking, but if you live or work in Johnson City, you get a little extra time to do that this year.

The Village of Johnson City has made some changes to their alternate street parking rules that you'll want to memory bank. In the past, alternate street parking started on November 1st and ran until April 1st from 2am to 6am.

Now, alternate street parking in Johnson City will run December 1st to March 31 in the village from 5pm to 5pm. On odd days of the week, you'll need to park on the even side of the street, and on even days of the week, you'll need to park on the odd side of the street.

"We couldn't get fire trucks through. We couldn't get ambulances through. Garbage trucks couldn't get through,” Mayor Greg Deemie told WBNG. “Even plows couldn't get through at some points because cars were parked on both sides of the street all day."

The Village of Johnson City hasn't updated these changes on their website yet, but should within the next few days.
