It looks like the weather will cooperate this weekend. No rain in the forecast with comfortable temperatures during the day and night.

As the saying goes, the third time is the charm for 5 Mile Point Speedway. The charm for what? I'll answer that in a moment.

It's a weekend full of racing and for deciding championships. Teams worked on their cars all winter and raced all summer and it comes down to this weekend for many.

On Saturday, the championships will be decided for the Crate Sportsman, Factory Stocks, Slingshots, Lightning Cat Experts and Novices. Racing begins at 7pm and kids 12 years old and younger are admitted free.

Now the charm, Sunday will be the third attempt at the Heath Memorial for Modifieds. The race will be the Season Championship title race, along with the title race for the Sunday Summer Slam Series.

It's the first time in it's 52 year history that the 40 lap Heath Memorial will also decide the track title. Defending Modified Track Champion Shaun Walker leads the standings over Mike Colsten. Mike won the title the previous two years.

This Sunday will also be the title race for the Summer Slam Series. The Series for the 600 Modifieds will only be two races due to rain-outs.

Also on Sunday,  the IMCA Modifieds will be racing for their Track Championship with twin events. The FWD Four Cylinders, Factory Stocks and Xcel 600 Mods will round out the night..

Drivers from the past will also be recognized with the Former Racer’s Reunion. It's the final weekend of racing until October 7th and 8th for the Am. Racer Cup.

Racing begins on Sunday at 6pm. Kids 12 and younger admitted free. To find out more and to keep up with any last minute changes, go here.
