Monday, June 8th is World Oceans Day. The Binghamton Zoo is celebrating this special day on Saturday.

It's an annual event that is held to encourage recycling and conservation for the ocean.

On Saturday, the zoo will have multiple activity stations that will focus on the ocean and how it impacts the lives of sea creatures, land animals, and humans. Keeper talks will take place throughout the day, with a special penguin feeding at 1:30pm.

A plastic bag drive will also take place in the Education Center starting at 10:00am. The first 50 people that bring in ten or more plastic grocery/shopping bags will receive a free reusable bag!

Did you know that there is 268,000 tons of plastic floating in the ocean? Bring your bags to the zoo and help lower that number and make a small impact on the environment.

Throughout the week, the zoo will be releasing ocean facts, conservation tips, and fun activities for followers to do at home.

These tips will explain the impact that can happen on our ocean when small steps are taken, like using reusable bags or participating in a community garden.
