The first Tuesday in August is "National Night Out" except in Texas when they do it on the first Tuesday in October. Events will be held throughout the country in over 16,000 communities including our area. This events is designed to:

  • 1) Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness.
  • 2) Generate support for and participation in local anti-crime efforts.
  • 3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.
  • 4) Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Tonight the Town of Vestal and the Vestal Police Department will celebrate it's 21st Annual Cruise-In & Cook-Out from 6-9 p.m. in the Parkway Plaza parking lot across from Target.

Come see the cars on display or bring your own vehicle to show off. All classes and kinds of cars can "cruise in" for all to see and enjoy. Proceeds from the Cook-Out will be donated to the Broome County Crime Victim's Assistance Center and members of the Center will be there with information about them.

The Vestal Police Department will be there to help with child safety seat inspections, child ID kits and other safety and crime prevention info. The Vestal Police Emergency Response Vehicle, Bicycle Patrol and Swat Team will be there too.

They will have a dunk tank and a bounce house.They will take canned and dry food products that will be donated to the Broome County Council of Churches CHOW Program.

Many other events will be happening throughout the area including Binghamton. So celebrate a NIGHT OUT and head to Vestal this evening.
