Celebrate Beef Day at the Great New York State Fair

The Great New York State Fair in Syracuse is less then 2 weeks away. The theme this year is "Find Your Great."  I think you'll find great and new things there this year.

On Tuesday, August 30th, it's "Beef Day" at the Fair. It's a day of cook-offs, contests and kid's activities.

The 10th Annual "Create the Perfect Burger" contest will be at 12:30 with 11 New York Future Farmers of America chapters participating in their own "Iron Chef Style" competition.

I grew up farming so I have an understanding about what goes on. There are other's who aren't so lucky. Yes, I consider myself lucky to have farmed while I was growing up.

During Beef Day, you'll be able to find out more about beef farming and what it takes to be a beef farmer. It gives everyone the opportunity to find out more about where their food comes from and understand the importance of the local beef industry.

That's part of the great things at the Great New York State Fair. Here's the new things:

It's the "Shake it Up" booth and the "Home of the Hot Beef Sundae." The New York Beef Council is donating proceeds of 300 Hot Beef Sundaes to the Food Bank of CNY. That's about $1,500 to help fight hunger in our area.

During "Beef Day," stop by the Beef Barn and participate in fun and educational activities. The Beef Cut Puzzle will help them learn where their food comes from. There will also be a Face of Farming Quiz and Did You Know Scavenger Hunt.
