What do you get when you raise a huge tent up, invite some of the best local bands, bring in some great homemade traditional Oktoberfest food, some cold brews, delicious baked goods, a giant country store and a chance to win $10,000.00?
Speed is not my thing. I guess that's why I work behind a microphone and play music all day! But when I did work at McDonald's drive thru in Johnson City, I was told speed was not my thing. Hey, I was in high school and couldn't understand why people were in such a hurry. But I have managed to move on with my life.
I was amazed when I walked in to Cafe West 46 for dinner last night. The last time I was in the quaint little building at 46 Seminary Avenue, Binghamton, was a landmark bakery in it's former life. Do you remember Wagner's Bakery? Today, you would not recognize the place, as the owner told me how they gutted the entire building, complete with a dining loft and a roomy seating area on the main floor.
There is only 2 days left for Binghamton Restaurant Week. It benefits CHOW and it gives you a chance to support local restaurants. Go here to see the businesses that are participating. I went to Cortese Restaurant yesterday and here's how it went.
Walking in to the River Bistro, inside the DoubleTree by Hilton, formerly The Binghamton Riverwalk Hotel, you know you are in for a nice dining experience. The hotel and restaurant is situated in the heart of downtown Binghamton, aone block North of Boscov's at 225 Water Street. The decor of the River Bistro is a comfortable modern contemporary and the menu has some nice choices.
Those who know me know that I'm Irish and love anything and everything Irish- including Gallagher's Irish Pub, which is why it was pretty much a no-brainer that Glenn and I decided to have dinner at Gallagher's as part of Binghamton Restaurant Week.
It's football season and if you've got some friends coming over to watch the game this Sunday and want to serve up some goodness, but don't want to spend too much time in the kitchen, I think you're going to love my recipe for chunky guacamole.
Binghamton Restaurant Week is not just food, it is an event. This event is directly connected to the new, urban energy in downtown Binghamton. And, best of all, it supports CHOW - Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse.
